Setting up a new mobile phone
This guide will cover activating your new phone, getting it compliant with company policy, including application installs, permissions, security enforcement, and RGA tools.
This guide will also cover migrating your data from one phone to another using Samsung Smart Switch.
This guide will also cover setting up your company email on your phone, if applicable.
Please note that RGA always recommends ensuring your phone is protected. RGA provides Otter Box cases for every phone to protect them.
To migrate from the 4G world to the 5G world, we have Whitnee Adkins to assist in phone activations. Before you turn on your new phone, you need to send an email to Whitnee Adkins at whitnee.adkins@verizonwireless.com. Send her your phone number and ask to be activated. She is available during the day, but 11am-1pm central time is best. She will acknowledge your email shortly after you send it to let you know your phone is ready for activation.
After confirmation of activation, you can power your phone on for the first time.
After a few seconds, you can proceed from the Welcome! Screen by tapping the Start button.
Agree to the Terms and conditions as well as the Privacy Policy and tap Next.
At this time, you should see that your phone was successfully activated. Tap next and tap continue to use mobile data.
At this time, your phone will check for updates and update accordingly.
Accept & continue to proceed and tap next.
You will be connected to the management portal and receive a registration token and registration will be complete. There might be a delay on the sync between multiple servers in Verizon. If this happens, you will need to postpone proceeding until the VerizonMDM allows you to proceed. You do NOT need to enter a username/password in VerizonMDM.
You will need to agree to Knox to continue posting device data, download settings, and apply settings automatically.
The phone will ask for confirmation to add URL shortcuts to your home screen. Go ahead and accept.
You will also be asked to turn on location services. Tap OK for that.
In Verizon MDM, the red lines need to be addressed. You will need to set up a password to be password compliant to ensure security and prevent non-RGA employees seeing confidential information. You must choose at least a 4-digit PIN or a higher security lock option. You can tap the red lines to go directly to the appropriate location in settings.
Required Apps need to be installed to ensure productivity. These apps should start installing instantly. Please allow enough time for installation to complete. These apps include BlueJeans, Word, OneNote, Lookout, Firefox, Excel, Acrobat Reader, Citrix Workspace, Certify, Fastfield, Keep Trucking, and Samsung Smart Switch.
Network Usage Statistics should also be allowed for Verizon MDM. Tap on Network Usage Statistics and scroll to Verizon MDM and enable Allow usage tracking.
If all shortcuts are not installed, in Verizon MDM, tap the 3 lines in the upper right and tap update configuration. There should be confirmation to add to home screen for the RGA Site, Citrix Logon, TdF Web, RGA Toolbox, and the RGA Help Desk, respectfully. You may need to update configuration multiple times to receive all shortcuts.
Your phone should now be compliant with RGA policies.
At this time, you may proceed to migrate your data from your old phone to your new phone using Samsung Smart Switch.
To open Smart Switch, simply go to all apps and search Smart Switch and tap on it. You will need to agree to proceed to Smart Switch. If it asks, you must allow all permissions in Smart Switch. You can then use Smart Switch on your new phone to receive data from your old phone either using the over the air method or the cable method. RGA recommends using the cable method. You can transfer pictures, text messages, phone logs, contacts and more.
After migration, you may proceed to set up email on your phone, if applicable.
To do this, open the Email app. In the Set-up Email screen, tap Corporate. Type in your RGA email address and password. You can choose the defaults. If it does not pull in the correct configuration automatically, that means the credentials were incorrect and you should close out the app and try again.
Apply security settings and allow access to your contacts and calendar to ensure full functionality. Tap done to complete the setup and tap on Activate to activate the device admin app. Tap done to choose the default name of your account (your email address).
Once email is properly set up, you will notice an email that says "your device is temporarily blocked and you do not need to do anything. Please note that your part is complete and you do not need to do anything. Emails should start flowing in shortly.
If you are not able to connect to your email, contact the IT team, there may be an issue with active sync.
